To lazy to have an alt scout ahead for you.
In a corp that is too unorganized or in disarray to work together.
Not very open-minded about change which will benefit PvP and defenders of territory.
...
The problem with this means that the universe is a lot smaller than it should and has been intended. I surely had hoped that each solar system could be unique in it's properties and that interstellar travel a bit less needed.
When I read the first part of this I got irritated, since you seem pretty elitist in this regard: EVE has a large segment of casual empire-based players don't have the time to run a scout alt or put together a good corp, and the fact is they shouldn't have to, there should be ways for them to avoid trouble on their own, such as the nav computer unless CCP expanded leadership skills to better cover industrial movement...
However the second part of your post is right on point: the current system favors the highways, leading to a corridor stretching from one end of the map to the other with lots of transports, lots of markets and lots of gankers, while the 80% of the map not on this route is all but abandoned. Rather your standing should mean something, as so many have stated before, and thus you should develop a 'sphere of influence' as your gameplay advances, your decisions making certain areas (at the beginning perhaps your national regions) more enticing than others. It doesn't matter how long it takes a Calderi to get from the Forge to the Throne Worlds if your main markets are Forge, Citadel and Lonetrek. It could also lead to opportunities to add content as factionalization (ie conflicts) could occur.
My Proposal: 1. Nav Computer for solo players to improve travel times. 2. Leadership skills which promote 'industrial convoys': Corps that ply the starways together get bonuses for group mining, travel time and other trade related bonuses. 3. Faction standing influences profit. If faction standing had an effect on your profits from market orders or npc bounties, such as high gallente faction leading to better serpentis bounties, it would help people settle into a region of space, leading them to maximize usage the area around their homebase, reducing local travel times; as opposed to cruising to every corner of the map but missing everything in the middle.
